View printableWhat is on this seahorse with a flower coloring page?
A smiling seahorse fills the center of the picture. It has large eyes, a small mouth and pink cheeks, with a flower resting near the top of its head. A wavy outline follows the back of its head and body, and a fin extends from one side. Its long tail curls inward near the bottom of the picture.
Curved lines divide the seahorse’s belly into sections. Around the character are round bubbles and starfish, while shells sit along the sandy shape below. Small marks and rounded shapes add details near the shells. The website name appears at the bottom of the original image.
Before choosing colors, look at the drawing together and notice the different shapes. The broad face and body offer larger spaces, while the flower petals and lines inside the fin invite more careful strokes. Your child might begin with the flower, follow the curled tail, or choose a shell as a first small area to finish.
Four activities for the seahorse picture
1. Choose colors for the seahorse and flower
Pick one main color for the seahorse and another for the flower. A pale turquoise body with coral-colored petals is one possibility; a purple seahorse with a yellow flower gives the picture a different look. These are ideas for the illustrated character, so a child can choose any combination they enjoy.
Try a lighter shade inside the belly sections and a darker shade on the wavy outline or side fin. Alternatively, leave the face mostly white and color the surrounding areas. Work gently around the eyes and smile so their black outlines stay visible. The cheeks already have a light pink tint in the original image and can be left as they are.
2. Make a pattern along the curled belly
The lines across the seahorse’s belly make natural spaces for a repeating pattern. Color one section blue and the next green, then continue the sequence toward the curled tail. For a quieter look, use two shades of the same color. If the smaller sections become tricky, stop at any point and leave the rest uncolored.
Compare the broad section near the top with the narrower ones near the curl. A crayon may be comfortable for the larger areas, while a sharpened colored pencil can reach the smaller spaces. On spare paper, experiment with a light and a firm stroke before deciding how much color to add.
3. Find and compare shapes
Look for the round bubbles around the seahorse and compare them with the curved flower petals. Follow the tail’s curl with a finger just above the paper, then trace the wavy outline behind the character. Ask which line travels inward and which one moves up and down. Pointing to the shapes is enough; there is no need to name them all.
Next, find the shells and starfish. Your child can touch each visible example once while counting, or compare the rounded shell outlines with the pointed starfish shapes. Let them check the picture for themselves. The dots on the starfish and the lines inside the shells are extra details to notice when they are ready.
4. Imagine a story beneath the bubbles
Give the seahorse a name and invent a reason it is wearing a flower. Perhaps it has chosen the flower for a special day, or perhaps it is showing its favorite decoration to someone. These are imagined stories inspired by the picture; the drawing itself does not tell us what happened before this moment.
Ask your child to describe what the seahorse might do next. An adult can write the answer on a separate sheet and keep it beside the colored picture. If your child wants to add seaweed, fish or another background detail, explain that these are new imaginary additions to the original drawing. Leave the website name at the bottom uncovered.
Start small: color the flower and one part of the seahorse first. Your child can continue later or enjoy the picture without coloring every space.
How to save and print the seahorse picture
- Select Download Coloring Image for the original WebP file. If the image opens in your browser, use the browser’s save-image option.
- Select Print Coloring Page to use the site’s image-printing tool. If it is unavailable, open the full-size image and print it from your browser.
- Choose A4 or US Letter paper and portrait orientation. Select fit-to-page scaling while keeping the original proportions.
- Check the preview before printing. The seahorse, surrounding details and website name should all remain visible.
The original image measures 1200 × 1767 pixels. The margins can differ between A4 and US Letter paper and depend on the printer’s printable area. Avoid stretching the picture to fill the sheet, because that changes the proportions of the seahorse and the surrounding shapes.
Enlarging an image does not add detail, and a larger print may make its outlines appear softer. If the result matters for a particular activity, print one test copy first. Use paper supported by your printer. Crayons and colored pencils are useful choices; if using markers, test them on spare paper and protect the surface underneath from possible bleed-through.
For another character wearing a flower, try the turtle in a wizard hat coloring page. You can also browse the coloring pages collection and choose a different picture for another day.
