What is on this sea turtle and ocean friends coloring page?

A large smiling sea turtle fills the center of the illustration. Its shell is divided into outlined sections, while rounded markings decorate its head and flippers. The turtle’s broad shapes provide room for larger strokes, and its smaller markings offer places to try careful pencil work.

A dolphin appears above the turtle on the left, facing a striped fish on the right. At the bottom, a smiling starfish and crab sit beside a fan-shaped seashell. Bubbles rise through the water, and the seabed includes rocks, branching coral-like forms, tall waving plants and tube-shaped growths.

Before coloring, invite your child to find each character. Ask which one they would like to begin with and which detail caught their attention. This is a playful cartoon scene, so children can invent their own colors without treating the illustration as an exact guide to ocean wildlife.

Five creative ways to color the underwater scene

1. Build a color pattern across the turtle’s shell

Choose two or three shades for the outlined shell sections. Try a light green beside a darker green, or combine brown and golden yellow. Your child can repeat the same sequence or decide on each section separately. Test the colors on spare paper before filling the larger shapes.

Give the head and flippers a softer shade so the shell pattern remains easy to see. The rounded markings can match the shell or become a separate accent. Leave the eyes and smile clear by working gently around their outlines. There is no need to complete every marking in one session.

2. Make the fish stripes stand out

The fish near the top right has curved stripes running across its body. Alternate two colors between the outlined spaces, or color the body lightly and use a stronger shade for selected bands. A yellow and orange combination offers one starting point; purple and blue make another.

Compare the fish’s striped body with the turtle’s divided shell. Which areas are long and narrow? Which have more corners? Let your child point to the differences before continuing. The aim is to explore the shapes already in the drawing, rather than insist on a particular finished pattern.

3. Give the smaller ocean friends their own colors

Choose a separate color for the dolphin, starfish and crab so each character is easy to find. Your child might try a gray dolphin, an orange starfish and a red crab, or invent an entirely different palette. These are creative suggestions for the cartoon characters, not rules about their real colors.

Use a colored pencil around the crab’s claws, legs and eye stalks. The starfish has rounded markings that can receive a second shade. Follow the lines of the fan-shaped seashell slowly, leaving a little white space between strokes if that creates a pleasing effect.

4. Create a layered seabed and gentle blue water

Begin with a pale sand color along the bottom of the picture. Add gray or brown to some rocks, then choose two or three colors for the plants and coral-like shapes. Repeating a shade in several places can connect different parts of the seabed without coloring everything alike.

Use light blue around the swimming characters if your child wants a colored water background. Work in small sections and keep the bubbles white, or give them a faint blue edge. A white background is also a complete choice and leaves the animals as the strongest visual focus.

5. Follow the bubbles and invent an ocean story

Pick a small group of bubbles and count them by touching each one once. Compare a larger circle with a smaller one, then look for other rounded shapes on the turtle or seabed. Your child can point, count aloud or simply choose a bubble to shade.

Next, imagine why these ocean neighbors have gathered together. Perhaps the turtle is introducing a new friend or the crab has found an interesting shell. Let your child give the characters names and describe what happens next. An adult can write a short dictated story on a separate sheet to display beside the finished picture.

Choose one character first: offer a small selection of pencils and let your child finish the turtle, fish or crab before deciding whether to continue with the background.

How to save and print the ocean picture

  1. Select Download Coloring Image to access the original WebP file. If it opens in your browser, use its save-image option.
  2. Select Print Coloring Page to use the site’s image-printing tool. If the tool is unavailable, open the full-size image and print from your browser.
  3. Choose portrait orientation and A4 or US Letter paper. Select fit-to-page scaling to preserve the original proportions.
  4. Check that the rectangular border, dolphin, turtle, starfish, crab and seashell are all visible in the preview before printing.

The original file measures 1055 × 1491 pixels. Its proportions are close to A4 portrait paper, while US Letter paper may leave different margins. Avoid stretching the picture to remove white space. Enlarging the image does not add detail and can make its outlines appear softer.

Crayons suit the broad shell sections and open water, while colored pencils help with the smaller bubbles, fish fins and crab details. Test markers on spare paper and place a protective sheet underneath. Use paper supported by your printer, and prepare one test print before making several copies.

For another animal scene, visit the farm animals by a barn coloring page. Compare the underwater setting with a barnyard, or explore the coloring pages collection to choose your next picture.
